Y Collection

The Y Collection consists of fiction, nonfiction, easy readers,  biographies, and graphic novels for children and young adults.

The Youth Collection (or Y Collection) is located on the 2nd floor of both the John Vaughan Library and the Broken Arrow Library. The nonfiction portion of the Y Collection uses the Dewey Decimal Classification System to orient pre-service teachers with how items are typically organized in school libraries. The collection supports the children's literature curriculum and provides fiction and nonfiction books for recreational readers ranging from emergent readers through young adults. We have a variety of award-winning titles of picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, biographies, and more! Whether reading for pleasure, needing a title to take into the classroom, or wishing to share with a student in a tutoring session, search for Y Collection books via NSU Library Discovery or come by to browse the stacks.

If you have questions about the Y Collection, please reach out to one of the librarian specialists for this area.

Feel free to use the helpful links below to learn more about children's and young adult literature. Please note all links open in the same window.

Congressional District Review Center

State Instructional Material Review Center

The Oklahoma State Department of Education reviews instructional materials used in public K-12 schools for replacement on an annual basis. Each year, the Department of Education selects a rotating group of academic subjects and grade levels for review, then allows publishers to submit bids for instructional materials that meet the state's curriculum standards for the subjects and grades under review.

Copies of all instructional materials submitted by publishers for the current review cycle are made available for the public and for educators at review centers in each state congressional district. These materials consist of:

  • Instructor textbooks
  • Student textbooks
  • Workbooks
  • Instructor manuals
  • Audiovisual Items
  • Manipulatives
  • Sample lesson plans

Publishers also provide correlation documents outlining how each title fulfills the state curriculum standards for each subject and grade.

Adopted Titles

Following review and approval by the State Textbook Committee, instructional materials for a given subject and grade level will be adopted for six years, after which a new review cycle will occur. A list of these approved titles can be found below.

Current Review Cycle

Follow the link below for a list of grade levels and subjects currently under review.

Online Review Materials

Review material publishers may provide correlation documents, lesson plans, and other resources in online formats accessible with a temporary username and password. To access these, open the Google Drive folder below.
