About the Event

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) recently selected the NSU Libraries as a host for one of its upcoming RoadShows. The theme of the RoadShow, "Assessment in Action," is designed to help attendees design and implement assessment initiatives at their institutions to demonstrate the library's impact to campus stakeholders.

Who Should Attend

Per the ACRL, "This workshop is intended for all librarians, library staff, and library administrators who seek to design and implement an assessment project that investigates the impact of the library on student learning and success. The workshop is particularly relevant for those who are interested in working with campus partners and aligning assessment with institutional priorities. Attendees are not expected to have previous experience with assessment."

The attendance cap for this event is 75 attendees. Priority will be given to registrants who are professional Librarians with an MLS degree or equivalent (both faculty/non-faculty and tenured/tenure-track/non-tenure track), Library Administrators, or work directly with assessment.

If you are an Instructor of Library Services, a Research & Instruction Librarian, Student Success Librarian, Subject or Liaison Librarian, or are in any way involved in research, instruction, and reference, then this workshop is for you!

All others (e.g., library circulation staff, paraprofessionals, etc.) may attend if space permits. A waitlist will be kept in the event that additional attendance slots become available.

Program Description

In the day-long "Assessment in Action" workshop, "participants will identify institutional priorities and campus partners, design an assessment project grounded in action research, and prepare a plan for communicating the project results."

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • "Design and implement assessment practices to document and improve the impact of libraries on student learning and success."
  • "Collaborate with key campus partners to align library outcomes and measures with institutional initiatives, priorities, and assessment activities."
  • "Communicate results of assessment activities to engage library stakeholders and to sustain a culture of continuous improvement."

Our facilitators provided the following details:

"AiA Roadshow participants can choose the assessment projects they want to work on developing.

"The outcomes we focus on measuring are student success outcomes (like GPA, retention rates, graduation rates, etc.) and student learning outcomes. We also explore ways to connect assessment projects with larger institutional goals and to collaborate across campus, which could also be very useful in creating a usability study that’s efficient and effective. AiA Roadshow participants can choose the assessment projects they want to work on developing."
