Library Policies

Access Privileges

The primary mission of the NSU Broken Arrow Library is to fulfill the research needs of the students, faculty, and staff of Northeastern State University and affiliated Oklahoma educational institutions. The secondary mission of the NSU Broken Arrow Library is to provide research support for members of the local community. As such, the NSU Broken Arrow library facility is open and accessible to not only members of the NSU Community, but also members of the local community who are undertaking serious research. Minors (under age 18) who wish to use the library must be accompanied and directly supervised by a responsible adult unless prior arrangements have been made. All library patrons using the library agree to the following rules and restrictions. Failure to follow library rules and restrictions may result in immediate suspension of library access privileges.

  • No firearms.
  • Minors (under age 18) who wish to use the library must be accompanied and directly supervised by a responsible adult.
  • No tobacco products.
  • No loitering.
  • No excessively loud or disruptive conversations or activities which disrupt other patrons.
  • No food or drinks around any computers.
  • Follow all NSU Computer Use Policy and Oklahoma State Laws regarding public display of sexually explicit materials.
  • Do not inordinately use excessive quantities of materials such as printer paper and supplies.
  • All patrons downloading, printing, or copying materials must carefully follow all copyright laws.

Renewal Policy

Library materials may be renewed provided they are not recalled, on hold, invoiced, or reserve items. Items must be physically returned after the maximum number of renewals. Students may renew 5 times; Special borrowers 2 times and Faculty & Staff 2 semesters. Phone renewals are possible if the item is not extensively overdue. Please call 918-449-6459 for renewal of library materials.

RESERVE ITEMS MAY NOT BE RENEWED.

For Items acquired through Interlibrary Loan, renewals are at the discretion of the lending institution. Renewal requests for Interlibrary Loan materials should be requested by e-mail to ill@nsuok.edu one week in advance of original due date.

Fines and Other Charges

No fines are assessed on overdue materials from the regular collection. Patrons who fail to return materials after all loan and renewal periods have expired will be charged for full replacement costs of the materials along with additional processing and billing charges. Combined, these charges can be substantial, so please be sure to return library materials when they are due. Patrons who abuse borrowing privileges may have their borrowing privileges restricted or revoked entirely at the discretion of library leadership. All patron library charges are filed with the Bursar's office, and may result in a "hold" being placed on their account until cleared. Interlibrary Loan charges may be passed on to the patron with prior notification given before material is requested.

Library Computer Use

The NSU Broken Arrow Library maintains a number of computer workstations along with related hardware and software for patron use. Priority is given to NSU students. Minors (under age 18) who wish to use a computer must be accompanied and directly supervised by a responsible adult. Library classroom workstations may be used at any time the library is open and no classes are scheduled in that room. All workstations require patrons to log-in with their own personal pre-assigned NSU usernames and passwords. All patrons using library computers must carefully follow the NSU Broken Arrow Library's Rules and Restrictions and NSU's Acceptable Computer and Network Use policy linked below.

Borrowing Privileges

OK-Share Borrowing

OK-Share is a cooperative agreement between the major academic libraries within the state of Oklahoma that allows access and limited circulation privileges at participating institutions (listed below) for the students, faculty and staff of Northeastern State University.

Obtain an OK-Share Card (BEFORE you visit a participating library!)

Stop by a Northeastern State University Library and fill out an OK-Share application (link below). Or print out the application and drop off the completed application at an NSU Library Circulation Desk.

When all information has been updated, the library will issue an OK-Share card that can be used at any participating OK-Share library in Oklahoma. The card will be set to expire at the end of the current academic semester.

Show your OK-Share card to the Circulation Desk staff at the participating library (along with any other required identification) for limited circulation privileges.

NSU Borrowing

OK-Share card borrowers are allowed two books in their possession at one time. The suggested loan period is two weeks for faculty, students and staff. Circulation and renewal of materials is governed by the local policies of the lending library. Use of the electronic reference tools and databases may not be available to OK-Share card borrowers.

To borrow material from a cooperating academic library, faculty, students and staff should present their current OK-Share card from their home educational institution's library at the circulation desk of the lending library. Other photo identification, such as driver's license, may be required by lending libraries.
