CLIP Levels of Instruction

Basic Instruction

Bachelor of Science of Organizational Leadership (BSOL):

Citations and Plagiarism -- The learning objectives of this tutorial are:
  Know how and why one should always cite their research sources;
  Recognize and avoid both Intentional and Unintentional forms of plagiarism;
  Become familiar with the two common citation styles - MLA Style & APA Style;
  Specific examples of citation styles for MLA and APA are presented.

   
Ebrary -- The purpose of this tutorial is to help students become familiar with the E Journal search tool, Ebsco Host.
  Students will learn about the Ebsco Host Databases,
  Selecting Which Databases to Search,
  Refining Your Search Results by Filtering,
  Interpreting Search Results through Citations & Abstracts,
  Selecting Article Views (PDF or HTML), and
  Further Search Refinement.

   
Ebsco Host -- The purpose of this tutorial is to help students become familiar with the E Journal search tool, Ebsco Host.
Students will learn about the Ebsco Host Databases, Selecting Which Databases to Search, Refining Your Search Results by Filtering, Interpreting Search Results through Citations & Abstracts, Selecting Article Views (PDF or HTML), and Further Search Refinement.
   
Evaluation of URLs -- This tutorial will focus on basic methods for assessing the appropriateness of using web site sources for papers and assignments. Using multiple examples, the following evaluation methods will be addressed:
  Google Ranking Factors (Popularity);
  Inferences of Domain Extensions (.com, .edu, .org, .gov);
  The Importance of Site Authorship & Publishers;
  Mechanisms for Promoting Accuracy;
  Tracing Reliability of Sources.

   
Google -- During this tutorial students are provided an overview of Google
  Basic Uses & Searches
  Elements of the Search Results
  Refining Searches
  Advanced Searches
  Google Images, Groups, News & other features.
   
NetLibrary -- This tutorial discusses the basics of NetLibrary:
  What are eBooks and NetLibrary?
  Why should you use NetLibrary?
  How to create a NetLibrary account
  How to log in to NetLibrary
  What materials are available in NetLibrary?
  How to use Basic and Advanced Search functions
  NetLibrary eBook check out and check in
  How to navigate within NetLibrary eBooks
  How to copy and print from the NetLibrary eContent interface
  Where to find advanced help for NetLibrary
   
Peer Review-- Upon completion of this tutorial, the student should know
  what a peer-reviewed journal is, when and why to use them,
  the key differences between a peer-reviewed journal and a popular magazine,
  the key differences between academic Database sources and open Internet Sources,
  the first basic step in searching for peer reviewed articles in EbscoHost.
   
Research Strategies-- The learning objectives of this tutorial are:
  How to choose your research topic
  How to identify key concepts
  How to analyze your information needs
  How to select resources that match your information needs.
