Remote Access to Library Resources - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need to change anything with my browser to access library resources from off campus?
No. If you have a current active NT-NSU account userid and you go to http://library.nsuok.edu/Indexes/index.html and click on any subscription database link, you will be prompted for your NT-NSU userid and password. When you enter your userid and password, click SUBMIT and you will be authenticated by EZproxy and access to the database will be granted. It's as simple as that!

  2. Who is eligible to access electronic journals and databases?
Only faculty, staff, and students of NSU are authorized to access the subscription databases. The library catalog is free to everyone.

  3. How do I get a NSUnet account userid?
Call EXCELS, x5580 on campus or 458-0888 off campus, and choose options 1,8, and 5. Listen to the Acceptable Use Policy for NSUnet and Internet. You will be assigned a userid and temporary password. When you have the opportunity to change your password from the original, PLEASE do so. NO ONE can look up your new password. If your password does not work and you are at the Tahlequah campus, go by the Microcomputing Services Center on the 3rd floor of the NET building or see a lab assistant in lab 212 or 213 in the NET building. If you are at the Muskogee campus, contact the on site Microcomputing Support at x5023. If you are at the BA campus, contact the on site Microcomputing Support at x6610.

The password for your NSUnet account must be at least 8 characters or more, using upper and lower case. It also must contain a special character (1-0 and most punctuation marks or symbols). "Spaces" are not allowed.

  4. How do I connect to the NSU Library Databases?

  5. I am using AOL to access the Internet as a browser and I am unable to access the subscription databases.
NSU does not support the use of AOL as it is incompatable with many campus standard software and subscription services. If you need further information regarding NSU's position on AOL, you can get assistance from 06:00 A.M. to 02:00 A.M. daily, except major holidays, by calling 456-5511 ext. 5678 or e-mailing webhelp@nsuok.edu.
    • Netscape works best as a browser with AOL. You can download it from Netscape.com. Note: The NSU campus standard is currently Netscape 7.2.
    • Connect to the Internet then minimize the AOL window.
    • Open your Netscape browser separately.
    • Point your browser to the Library home page.

  6. I am not able to download the full-text of an online journal.
    • Check the Library's catalog to make sure we have a current online subscription to the journal.
    • Some online journals are password-protected and may be accessed only on-campus. You can visit the Reference Desk, telephone
      456-5511 ext. 3240, 3241, or e-mail library@nsuok.edu to obtain access.

  7. Help! I still having trouble. What do I do now?
If you are experiencing difficulty logging on to one of the Library's online databases (i.e. EbscoHost) please contact the Reference desk at 456-5511 ext. 3240, 3241 or email library@nsuok.edu. If you are using Netscape 7.2 and are having trouble accessing NSU resources in general, you can get technical assistance from 06:00 A.M. to 02:00 A.M. daily, except major holidays, by calling 456-5511 ext. 5678 or e-mailing webhelp@nsuok.edu . If you have questions about your NSUnet user account, please contact (918) 458-0888 (off campus) or extension 5580 (on campus).
